Understanding the Challenges

In many cultures, mental health is generally seen as a taboo. Individuals who experience mental challenges are often labeled as weak. If you are depressed or anxious, you are often encouraged to just “go for a walk” or “meditate.”

Do you feel a sense of unfamiliarity with your friends and family when talking about mental health? We can relate! We come from multicultural backgrounds where it’s hard to navigate conversations about mental health.

Whether you’re dealing with issues related to acculturation, intergenerational conflict, or any other cultural stressors, we are here to offer a safe and supportive space for you to explore your concerns.

We are a small private practice that come from different multicultural backgrounds: Mithila Ballal is an Indian Therapist / South Asian Therapist, Daniela Viola is a Brazilian Therapist and Britany Tracey is a Caucasian Therapist.

What is Multicultural Therapy?

Multicultural Therapy and counselling can provide a support system for people to build a relationship with their therapist or counsellor from their cultural background, and feel heard and understood.

Multicultural therapy, also known as culturally sensitive therapy, is an approach to counseling and mental health treatment that takes into account the diverse cultural backgrounds and perspectives.

This form of therapy acknowledges and respects the unique experiences, values, and beliefs of individuals from different cultural, ethnic, and racial groups. This approach is particularly beneficial for individuals who may feel marginalized or misunderstood in traditional therapy settings.

Types of Therapy and Counselling

Individual Therapy or Psychotherapy can help identify and change negative thought patterns and behaviors. It can be particularly helpful for clients who are struggling with anxiety or depression or stress.

Group Therapy

Group therapy can be an effective form of therapy as it provides a sense of community and support. It allows clients to connect with others who are going through similar experiences and can provide a safe space for them to share their thoughts and feelings.
